Briefing

Move a 2D training agent

A game is a loop that reads input, updates state, and draws a frame. Navigate the training agent to the beacon using touch controls or the arrow keys.

Coordinates and state

A 2D grid assigns each cell a coordinate. The player position is state; a move changes one coordinate. Keep position updates inside the world bounds so the player cannot leave the map.

Input and the game loop

A real-time game samples input, advances simulation state, resolves collisions, and renders. Delta time scales movement by elapsed time so frame rate does not change the intended speed. This small turn-based grid keeps the same ideas visible without an engine dependency.

Build progressively

Godot with GDScript is a practical route into 2D scenes and signals. C# and Unreal concepts build on the same fundamentals: state, input, physics, UI, and testing. Later modules add those tools; this grid exercise is playable now.

Practical exercise

Run the mission

Move from the lower-left start to the beacon. Complete the route north, north, east, east, east.

Progressive hint

Use the arrow keys or touch buttons to change one grid cell at a time.

Need another hint?

The target route is north twice, then east three times.

OP

Training agent / beacon route

Start at the lower-left. Reach the amber beacon at column 4, row 2.

Use arrow keys or the touch controls.
