Mission 06 / FLIGHT CONTROLLERS / CONFIG
UAS and FPV Engineering
Explore flight-controller architecture, understand Betaflight-style CLI concepts, and review a simulated failsafe profile.
Briefing
Inspect controller failsafe configuration
A flight controller combines sensors, firmware, and actuator outputs. The console below is a training simulator; it cannot connect to or configure real hardware.
Trace the control loop
Gyroscopes measure angular rate; accelerometers estimate motion relative to gravity. Firmware compares measured motion with the requested setpoint and updates motor commands through ESCs. PID terms shape how strongly the controller corrects error.
Configuration is not firmware programming
A CLI reads and changes configuration values exposed by installed firmware. Firmware programming changes the software itself and requires a separate, validated process. This training console only recognizes a few safe mock commands; it does not flash, arm, or communicate with a controller.
Back up and inspect failsafes
A configuration backup records the current setup before a change. A failsafe defines a response to lost control link or other faults; the correct behavior depends on the aircraft, environment, and operating procedures. Never treat a sample profile as safe for a real aircraft. Follow the aircraft manufacturer's process and applicable aviation rules.
Practical exercise
Run the mission
In the simulated CLI, inspect the failsafe setting and save a configuration backup. Report the displayed failsafe mode.
Progressive hint
Inspect the read-only failsafe value before saving a training backup.
Need another hint?
Run `get failsafe`, then `save backup.txt`, then use the displayed value as your answer.
Link: disconnected by design · state: disarmed · failsafe: return
Run get failsafe, then save backup.txt. Values stay in this page session; nothing is sent to a flight controller.

Knowledge check
Before any real configuration change, what should a technician do first?
